EUGENE STOCKDALE

Eugene Clair Stockdale, 87, of Dayton, PA, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home.

He was born August 13, 1930 in Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, the son of Arthur Leroy and Twila Aldean (Stuchel) Stockdale.

Eugene was a lifelong resident of Dayton and graduated from Dayton High School in 1948.  He honorably served as a corporal in the US Air Force.  As a wonderful business man and co-owner of Stockdale's Store in Dayton for over 45 years, Gene brought joy and sweetness to so many in the community and beyond.  He was an active member of the Dayton United Methodist Church and was a gifted musician who enjoyed sharing his talent in the church choir, Marshall House and other musical events.

He spent much of his time pursuing his passion for animals and farming.  He enjoyed his homemade ice cream and card games with family and friends.

He leaves loving memories to be cherished by his sons, Dennis E. Stockdale and wife, JoEllen, of Dayton, PA, and Terry L. Stockdale and wife, Rachel, of Falls Creek, PA;  daughters, Cynthia L. Cappellari and husband, David, of Hilton Head, SC, and Lisa A. Olson and husband, Jack, of Lorton, VA;  seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Aldean Rummel and husband, Raymond, of Punxsutawney, PA.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Dolores Jean (Travis) Stockdale, whom he married June 6, 1951 and who died May 13, 2012; brother, Paul Stockdale; and sister, Maxine Blose.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, April 27th, 2018 at Dayton United Methodist Church, 105 East Church St., Dayton, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 at the church, with the Rev. Dennis Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Dayton, PA.

As the church was an important part of his life, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene's memory to the Dayton United Methodist Church, 105 East Church St., Dayton, PA 16222.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amy and Marie, two very special hospice nurses, who brought Gene love and laughter.
