DOROTHY MAE SLAGLE

Dorothy Mae Slagle, 92, completed her pilgrimage here on earth to enter her eternal home in heaven on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice facility in Butler, PA.

She was born on November 16, 1925 in Plum Creek Township, a daughter of the late Clark Wilson Leonard Eakman and Lydia Ellen (Gearheart) Eckman. She enjoyed canning, cooking, reading her Bible and receiving letters from family and friends. She was a multi-talented woman &endash; a superb wife and mother. She took on the tasks that were needed over the years of caring for her family, cooking, gardening, building, roofing by assisting dad and serving as a retail store clerk and caregiver. She always had a good word to say about everybody and thought about everyone else first. She was a great prayer warrior and held many people up to the Lord in prayer. Her life was based on living for the Lord and was a true servant for Him and to others. She told the hospice personnel who took loving care of her that Jesus said to be kind to all and that is why she said thank you to them each time they did something for her.

She was a member of the Old Mahoning Baptist Church. She lived in New Castle for several years, in Lisbon, Ohio from 1967 to 1980, and moved back to Armstrong County, Pennsylvania in 1981.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Slagle Sims and son-in-law, William, of Kittanning, PA; and her sister, Ruth Ann Roudabush of New Castle, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband -- Charles "Bud" Slagle; eight brothers (Floyd Eakman, Carl Eakman, Roy Eakman, Clarence Eakman, Elmer Eckman, Leonard Eckman, Lee Eckman, and Laird Eckman; and two sisters, Della Bruce and Marie Guntrum).

The family will receive family and friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a service by Pastor Micah McMillen on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Carson Boyer Funeral Home, 724 W. Main St., Rural Valley, PA, 724-783-7331. A private burial will be at the Cochran Cemetery in Boggs Township, Armstrong County.
